From boosting cognitive skills and enhancing physical coordination to helping with emotional expression and social interaction, these activities support a child’s growth in so many ways. They spark creativity, build social bonds, and foster an appreciation for diverse cultures.

Each week Corunbia Park Early Learning offers two different music and movement programs for our children. The younger years participate in the “Dance along” program while our kindergarten children partake in the “Happy Feet” program.

Each week, our 4 older classrooms embark on an immersive sensory adventure, thanks to Miss Sarah! This term, our program is all about bringing stories to life, where the kids' creativity and imagination shine as they dive into their favorite books. Through sensory-rich activities, they engage all their senses—touch, sight, sound, smell, and taste—while building essential skills like problem-solving, language, and emotional regulation. 📚✨

In recent weeks the children have explored the famous Australian story “possum magic”, “the koala who lost its tree”, “the wheels on the Ute” and many others.

Sensory play is key to early brain development and helps our little ones explore the world around them in exciting, meaningful ways. 🌟 #SensoryPlay #StorytimeMagic #ChildDevelopment

Over the past two weeks, the classes have been celebrating the 2024 olympics by having their own mini Olympic Games within the service. It’s been great to see the children discovering new sports and learning about the olympics and celebrating our Australian Olympic hero’s.

And who knows, maybe we have helped play a part in a future Olympian’s journey!

Last week saw the return of the Larrikin Puppet show! All of the classes from our babies through to kindergarten, gathered together to watch and engage in the interactive puppet show. It was a morning filled with squeals of joy and laughter as the puppets entertained everyone.

With all the cold weather we’ve been experiencing lately, our kindergarten classes decided to warm themselves up by having a campfire with some freshly made hot chocolate and damper!

The children gathered around and enjoyed the warmth of the fire while watching their educator make the damper. Once the dough was ready it was wrapped up and carefully placed under the fire pit to cook. Whilst they were waiting, the children enjoyed a cup of delicious hot chocolate and sang their favourite songs, sitting around the campfire. When the damper was finally cooked, it was buttered and drizzled with golden syrup for the children to try.

We love to create the opportunities and experiences for the children to come together as a group, sharing their joy with each other whilst also exploring some traditional food and a little sweet treat 🔥

Last Friday we had our annual visit from Lucas Proudfoot. All of the classes in the service gathered in our beehive yard for the interactive music and comedy show. A talented storyteller, Lucas plays guitar, didgeridoo and stomp box, and he’s even been a special guest of ABC Play School! Known for his fast wit and cheeky humour, Lucas has been entertaining young audiences across Australia for the last 10 years. We love having Lucas visit our service every year and incorporating indigenous culture and music into the curriculum and teaching the children all about Aboriginal culture.

For children, learning about Aboriginal culture is particularly important as it promotes empathy, respect, and appreciation for diversity from an early age. It helps them understand the history and heritage of Indigenous peoples, fostering a sense of inclusivity and unity within society. Moreover, it encourages curiosity and critical thinking, enabling children to engage with different perspectives and value systems. By learning about Aboriginal culture, children develop a broader understanding of the world and their place in it, laying the foundation for a more inclusive and equitable future.

A mud kitchen offers a range benefits such as sensory development, creativity, physical development, connection with nature, scientific exploration, social skills, and emotional development for children. Through sensory play and imaginative exploration, children enhance their cognitive and motor skills while fostering a deeper connection with nature. Moreover, the collaborative and experimental nature of mud play promotes social skills, scientific inquiry, and emotional resilience, making it a comprehensive and enriching learning environment for children.

The possum’s had a wonderful morning exploring the mud kitchen in our nature yard, filling up all the different containers with water. These moments weren’t only was a great way to build on the children’s developing social skills, but to also explore volume and size as they poured from one container to another!

This term the Echidnas class has been exploring different cultures and communities that exist within their classroom. The children were very fortunate to have one of our families come in and share with the children the Cook Island culture. The family took the children all about the culture and their connection with music and nature. The echidnas were able to learn how to do one of their dances and once they had finished, they then explored the different instruments, head pieces, sarongs and jewellery.

Learning about culture is crucial for children as it fosters empathy, promotes identity formation, encourages critical thinking, prepares them for global citizenship, and provides historical understanding.

Thank you so much to the Tan family for sharing your culture and history with the children ♥️

Last week the Wallaby's class had a Teddy Bear Picnic! The children bought in their favourite cuddly toys from home and had a fun filled morning in the yard, making fairy bread, reading stories and playing games with their toys!

Hosting a teddy bear picnic provides a range of benefits for children, including the development of social skills, imagination, and creativity. It encourages outdoor play, supports emotional and language development, fosters bonding experiences, introduces cultural and social learning, and contributes to stress reduction. Overall, it offers a well-rounded developmental experience in a playful and engaging setting.
